New files on the desktop should have an animated glow effect

When Firefox downloads and saves new files to the Desktop or or when files are copied to the Desktop via the command line, the new icon reprensenting that file could be difficult to find when it is among many other icons.

It would be nice if new icons that appear on the desktop would have a nice animated glowing affect for a few moments.

Normally I have no time for simple "more eye candy please" ideas, but this one has the potential to be a positive contribution. I'm sure others could point out other applications for this "animated glow effect".

Vote = +1

After viewing this site for months but never being motivated enough to make an account, this idea was too good to let die off. I love this idea, it's something unique and interesting that can only have a positive effect. While I don't know what the effect would be, I am sure that if someone didn't like it it could be modified or turned off. And I bet most people would like it.

There are some complications, like when does the glow go away and stuff, but overall this is something we should definitely look into.

+1

This is a great, great feature! And so easy to implement too. All nautilus has to do is check the creation date and put it into glow as long as it's creation date and access date is < 1 minute old. (That way reading a new file before the first minute is over will remove the glow)

I like this idea as well!

I would offer that the duration of the glow be customizable. Some of us don't check our desktops often, or get distracted, and it would be nice to be able to flip to it, and see 'so-far-untouched' items -- similar to (I hate to use Windows as an example!) new programs installed on Windows, in the start menu.

You could deactivate the glow by interacting with the file -- clicking on it, opening it, etc? Just clicking on the item complicates it, though I think it'd be useful.

but please as an option easy to switch off (and maybe not available as default) - it can be useful for some people, but i'm affraid it's too much resource consuming... overally, operative system resources are precious (even on 16-core 4ghz computers), not to be wasted...
