@deadowl - I don't get it - when you join duplicates the votes go up so it is more visible no?
If anything, the massive number of duplicates hides unique ideas that you can't see amongst all the volume.
Perhaps have a filter option that people can set to their preference.

If scoping was meant to refer to seeing all the angles, then I would prefer we break down or augment the main idea with subpoints... and then when ideas are joined or merged the subpoints are promoted (optionally) to the main idea so that all angles are combined.
