Idea #9630: Include a small GTK and Metacity theme for low screen resolutions

bug This idea is a duplicate of Idea #6772: Make a compact Human Theme.
Written by ubuntubene the 7 Jun 08 at 17:47. Category: Look and Feel. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
In my humble opinion, the default "Human" theme in Ubuntu takes too much screen space, at least on a notebook with a 1024x768 resolution.

It would be great to have a "small" version that leaves more space for applications, in size maybe similar to the old Win2K GUI. That way, people like me with an older notebook would be much happier with the overall Ubuntu experience. I know that nowadays most notebooks have higher screen resolutions, but for older displays, this would be a nice and simple improvement.

As far as I know, GNOME 2.24 is going to come with a compact theme, according to the roadmap.

Gnome-look.org has plenty of minimal themes available, I like murrina compact...

also a quick trick: go into font settings in appearance and set the DPI to a lower setting like 75 instead of 96... it really works, makes all the text smaller.... but I know what you mean, GNOME/GTK is really non-compact... bad for low-res screens... including a small theme would be great...
