Idea #9579: Add more Appearence themes

Written by diablo75 the 6 Jun 08 at 15:24. Category: Look and Feel. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
There are a lot of themes available for download from http://www.gnome-look.org/, but it would be nice if some of the best ones that are not currently included with Ubuntu WERE included by default. What would it hurt to include a few more?

Only complete and really beautiful themes

Very good idea, minimal work for the Ubuntu team, but big gain for regular users. Personally I think the whole way of adding a new theme that you downloaded is a little counter-intuitive also, I might raise a new idea about fixing that later.

+1.

I like the idea, i'd vote for clearlooks compact, for people with small screens the compact version is important.

@gsiliceo
+1 for your idea! ;) standard themes are for big screens not for i.e 14" laptops

Grab gnome-themes-extras package.
But yes, it could give you more themes and be installed by default.

vinipl87, I grabbed that package and am using the darklooks theme. But for some reason, it's not loading correctly after restarting the computer. It looks like Windows 98, until I go to my Appearance settings to select something else, then select it and reload it....

Just something to mention....

Well, the only theme that i'd like to see appart from Human (or Murrine) is the OpenSolaris's Nimbus. http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Nimbus+(+Debian+and+Ubuntu+packages+ )?content=70212

Or at least in the Repos, because the one in Gnome-Look doesn't work,

I think that would be a great idea, and it should extend to a matching FireFox theme that goes with the desktop.

I absolutely agree with that, Ubuntu is too poor whereas adding a dozen of nice themes would be easy and would really improve the ubuntu experience for new users...
