That terminator wikipedia page is for the wrong project. Terminator (the one this report is about) is written in Python and allows you to split up the terminal into multiple sub-terminals.

Terminator has one great feature, but otherwise misses everything offered by gnome-terminal. I would rather say add this feature to gnome-terminal rather than replace with terminator, in addition to all the above mentioned issues.

I would suggest everybody to try out terminator before voting it down here. I would not want to miss it anymore. Besides the features it provides, it feels faster for me.
