Idea #9536: Better use of fingerprint readers (keyring enhancement)

bug This idea is a duplicate of Idea #2: Fingerprint readers integration.
Written by shivan the 5 Jun 08 at 18:35. Category: Security. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
I have a fingerprint on my laptop, and it's awesome, I just have to swipe my finger instead of entering my password when I want to sudo.

The thing is that I still can't really use it to login from GDM, as GDM redirects the password you enter to Gnome Keyring, if I just swipe my finger, no password is entered, and the keyring will ask me to type the password.

so, would it be possible to have GDM unlock the keyring without password ?

in feisty I needed to unlock the keyring manager with a password when I connected to my WLAN.

In hardy not any more. Can anyone confirm that? ...Does this even have something to do with the idea itself? I thought so but am not for sure.

Sebastian, I can half-way confirm. I used to log in after booting, and didn't have to enter my keyring (which used the same password as my login). Then after switching to Auto-Login so I don't have to type my password, the keyring reappeared.
