I haven't checked out the options yet, but I am thinking of getting a LightScribe drive to make the Ubuntu CDs I write look more professional. Having support in Ubuntu is obviously a must-have consideration.

There should be a free open source software implementation.
I refuse proprietary software.

Warbo, you may want to reconsider lightscribe.
I used to work at an Applecentre and my boss swore on lightscribe. However:
1) The lightscribe CD's/DVD's cost a lot more
2) Lightscribe labels take AGES to burn.
3) Lightscribe is black and white.
4) Its not that professional, look at http://doogs.typepad.com/blog/images/lightscribe_1.jpg
5) Weird stuff occasionally happened with the labels for us. Sometimes they would stop half way
You are better off just getting an inkjet printer with CD/DVD printing support. At least then the label is colorful.
I vote +0. Whilst a lot of our customers loved the idea at first, the cold hard fact is, none of them really used it. And that was on OSX (which is considered to be a creative platform).
Lightscribe is a great idea, but not many people use it, because it takes too long, the results are overrated, its black and white and finally, inkjetting looks better
