Description
It's not a secret that industry is pushing new technologies based on touch interfaces (multitouch in iPhone/Macbook Pro; fist details on Windows 7...).

This means that big computer manufacturers (dell, hp, lenovo...) will be pushed by the market to introduce more and more devices at affordable prices that supports this emerging (and sucessful!) way of interacting with computers.

Soon keybord and mouse will be just at archaeology museums... and I hope Ubuntu will be not with them, plenty of dust beside examples of cuneiform script :(

I go along with the idea of having support for new hardware devices as/when they are made available. Of course, that will require cooperation of the hardware manufacturers.

The thing I'm curious about is how these "new technologies" are going get around the visual form of human languages being based on characters most efficiently input via a keyboard.

Touchscreen is hype, it wont replace keyboard and mouse.

Touchscreen has its uses, applications and advantages but it wont replace keyboard and mouse.

Touchscreen is a good replacement for a mouse for 90% of what I use it for (but I'll admit I don't use a mouse much in Ion wm).

But you're on crack if you think it can replace a keyboard for any serious amount of use. Your idea would be improved by deleting that.

Nevertheless your comment about keyboards doesn't really impact your idea. I'll give you +1 for the rest.

Better MPX support too.

There is Ubuntu Mobile, which is sort of similar to what you mean:

zephyrcat, Ubuntu Mobile is well...for mobile devices. it's intended for the UMPCs/PSP-like things coming out, not for full desktop use.

I would like to see Ubuntu add and improve touch-screen features. Maybe that could be the focus for 9.04, seeing as mobile computing is the focus for 8.10? :D
