- bigger file (to capture the accuracy)
- data lost or a bad conversion
- an excessively confusing menu

Then they'd think less of the FREE format that they're just trying out.

I've been there too. An in-program convert lets you see the result better so you can make an informed decision (thinking images and ODF)

For texts and picts, you can easily load them in your favorite editor and save same in another format.

Maybe Totem and Rythmbox should have the same feature: "convert to avi" "convert to ogg" etc. ?

This would be *very* useful, but users would have to select the output resolution/bitrate manually (or by estimated filesize), with an option to keep the existing res/bitrate.

Very convenient, with many possibilities - easy conversion of videos for portable devices would be awesome.

Definitely a +1.
