Description
It would be cool if besides every entry on Add/Remove there were a "tipjar" button that would lead you to its corresponding project donations page. This would help raise funds for FOSS projects and its a good way for people to be able to say thanks to the projects developers if they like their software. It would also be cool if on the About Ubuntu/KDE/GNOME there were also tipjars available for each of this projects.

You should consider the fact that some developers make free software for companies and are being paid for it.

Yes, but most of them work as volunteers on their free time. And most projects would benefit greatly from extra funding.

if someone is interested in making a donation, im sure they can spend those extra 30 seconds going to to project page which usually shows on the program description and find the donation page themselves :)

I like the idea.
I don't see any downside in making a direct link to the donation page easily available. It reminds the community of the possibility to support projects via donations, and increases the ease of doing such.
Aside from the time it takes to initially implement such a feature, and the 30 extra seconds it takes to include the appropriate link... is there a downside to this idea?

Aw, Ubunteando you just don't want to be reminded that you are a mooch the next time you install software. Let the personal issues go and make FOSS better dude! ;)
But seriously, this is a good idea. On the flipside it must be obvious, but understated. We don't want it to look like a beg-athon. Perhaps even make it a configurable option with a one time opt out on first use of the package manager.

I think you need a much more serious website/backend to support all open-source software projects. Then, if one were to exist, there would be controversy regarding who's taking a cut of the money and how the website advertised one company more than another.

Making a pathway for upstream devs/third parties to Offer Paid Support through Ubuntu is a complementary way to help upstream monetize their development efforts, as well as Ubuntu.
Your idea of having a link in Add/Remove makes sense. Consider also a button in the About dialog, or a small icon added to every app or the ability to right click the menu bar of the running program to "Support This Project" or "Get (Paid) Support."

I would go with jhoger - a support this project button would be nice in the About dialog.
