Description
After all, it takes up a lot of space, creates clutter and it's absolutely of no use for people that got just one user on the computer.

Yeah, the first thing I do after I install Ubuntu is to remove that applet since it takes up unnecessary space.

I don't want this to be hidden and never shown if there is just a single user. so -1.

Ssdg: Would love to know _why_ you think so.

Your user + root = At least 2 users after installation.

Root is not shown by default, don't know if its even possible.
+1 because I have many single user systems.

-1 IMO user swith applet should be activated by default, but maybe its good option to make -checkbox- (durring creating user profil in installation):
"don't show user applet at startup - i am the only 1 user",
with -Note- how to restore this applet in future .

Nah, if we start checkboxing every possible option in the installation menu we are moving clutter from one place to another.

This can be programmed so the applet knows when there is only one user and then its invisible, as soon as it detect another user it pops up.

Ssdg: Surely as a single user there is no need for swapping users? If a second user is later set up, then the applet could automatically start?

This seems logically so +1 vote. My only little concern is how to easily switch to a guest user from a single users setup.

+1

Yep no need for it. Got rid of it when I installed.
