Description
When you unmount an usb flash memory or a memory card, sometimes you can read "Device safe to remove", but sometimes nothing happens (I think that the message is only shown when it was copying).
I think it would be nice to always show "Safe to remove".
Thanks

I always have to wait some seconds to make sure that a communicate saying that data transfer is in progress won't show...
I would also advise to change "Unmount" option from USB-connected media to "Safe unplug", like in Windows. It says more to final users.

In KDE, the right click menu item is "Safely remove".
Also, the desktop icon changes when the device is mounted or unmounted.
In my view, the easiest thing to do (and I do it often) is to use the df command to see if the device is mounted or not, and umount it when necessary.

I completely disagree with glibik.
Users who want to use the GUI shouldn't have to care about console commands.
Also it is counter productive to have to open a console just to see if your usb drive was unmounted. Not only that, you also have to type df and read through many mounts with lots of details you don't care about just to see if your usb drive isn't in the list.
I think people should stop trying to prove how much of a geek they are and try to make Ubuntu be friendlier to new comers.
I think people who try to make things hard for each other are against the meaning of Ubuntu.

Although it should have a "Do not show this message again" checkbox.

+1 Its frustrating that it can be unpredictable.
It really should give some sort of indication that it is syncing the flash drive: "Please wait before removing drive"
then "You may now remove the drive"
also have a button to allow to remount...I find my self unplugging then replugging sometimes because i forgot something.

good idea! I would also suggest to add easy intuitive icons (green ok, red wait) to the popping message.

+1. KDE gets this right! GNOME should focus on getting the basic model right before working on pretty notification boxes :-P.
