Idea #8889: Show more information when overwriting files

Written by granadajose the 21 May 08 at 07:19. Category: Look and Feel. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
When moving a file from a folder to a another folder where already exists a file with the same name, the confirmation dialog that appears doesn't show any information about the old file (the file to be overwritten) and the new file.

It would be quite useful to get more information in this message: "The file X with size X and last modified date X is about to be overwritten with the file Y with size Y and last modified date Y".

Also it could go a bit far from the MS Windows solution and present a botton were after click is shown the differences of the files (for example like what diff does).

Great idea.

Show modification time is great. I have had many times I wanted copy file, and I didn't know which is newer...

Agreed with the diff, make it an "advanced options" thing, where its hidden by default until you click horizontal arrow.

Good idea.

The confirmation dialog could also tell something like "the two files are identical" if its the case.

+1

When the files are images you should see them side by side.

For those who don't know, konqueror already does this(and many more). As a temp solution, you can install konqueror and use it in ubuntu(gnome).
