I disagree, this is an LTS release and I don't want my system dragged through all the firefox RC candidates, some of which you know will have regressions. I'd prefer to hold tight on beta 5 until the final comes out.

I think he would rather have the Firefox version-2 as default browser.
And then the Firefox 3.0b5 for testing, navigation, failures,bugs,etc..
But what you can not have a default browser in an OS, which is in beta, I think .. I do not know. (Although Microsoft also did the same with IE.)
Thank you.

I'm sure the July point release of Hardy will include the most up-to-date version of Firefox.

Yes in an LTS, I would expect that I don't have to upgrade to all the RCs, etc.
The beta was put because I don't think that they'd be able to maintain FF2 until April 2011. Just wait for FF3 final.

It is an RC... It has to be more stable then a beta!
If you don't want all the RC's, just dont opgrade...
1+ from me :)

Only upgrade ones to the final version.

It makes no sense whatsoever to continue using the beta, instead of release candidate. There may be a few regressions, as mentioned, but it will fix a lot more issues then cause new ones.
big +1

This version should be much more stable than the beta 5, that's why I think it's best it comes standard with Hardy Heron

Apparently there is a point release coming up anyway of the liveCD, but either way, we should upgrade beta 5. I'm using RC1 at the moment, and it seems to be a lot better.

Auzy, how did you install RC1?

You should change this to mention RC1 in the description unrealfighter, tried searching for it to mark the other as dupe but couldn't, so thought I was going crazy.
Btw, installed RC1 on windows, not Ubuntu because, in my opinion, I feel that linux still has installation shortcomings. One statement I keep making, and yet keep getting voted against for (and everyone is allowed to have an opinion, I have no problem with it), is true in this case. The problem with package management, is that whilst it makes overall management easier, it covers up the fact that installing programs on windows is always possible straight away without messing around with terminal some of the time, whilst, the 3rd party program installation experience in Ubuntu is inconsistant at best.
However, if my menutogo standard is adopted by Canonical, I probably would consider using Ubuntu full time again (because then the shortcoming of installing programs in any situation is overcome, not that I think RC1 would be hard to install, but other programs can be). Unfortunately, couldn't make it to the conference though, so it will be a uphill battle.
Thats my personal opinion. I can tell you though, RC1 is a LOT better then Beta5. Still had 1 weird issue so far, but I'm using RC1 full time now (Beta 5 I did find pretty glitchy in alot of cases, but I do agree with Canonical's reason for inclusion). The bug hasn't ever come up again. It may also be OS dependant, so might not affect ubuntu.

Yawn, 8.04.1 will include the latest version available at that time... track that branch if you want the latest.
Hopefully they will hold off the point release until ff3-final is released rather than -rc1.

Peetie, why would it possibly make sense to wait to upgrade beta software?
Pardon me for asking, but why would you want to wait? This makes no sense.
An LTS means supporting the software for longer and keeping it stable in the long run.
If you don't want RC1, don't install it, but I cant really think of reasons why you want to continue using beta.

Actually, I'll add to this once again. Just a reminder that common sense should apply when voting for this (Canonical will do it anyway).
If you care about plugins you don't have to upgrade, but consider everyone else might, so +0 should be the minimum.
If you don't like it because you are worried about regressions, you don't need to upgrade, so you should +0, but please use common sense and look at the big picture. Generally, more bugs are fixed then regressions when feature freeze happens. (Its rare to see a software project in RC status where regressions increase per update beyond that of bugs fixed).

Apparently I wasn't clear. The first point release of Hardy-LTS will include the closest to release version of Firefox3 available at the time of its release. However, you don't just drop in a new version of any *app* an existing release without testing (especially with LTS where ABI stability is important).
However, if you want to pick up the development stream (perhaps via Hardy-proposed) you can get the untested new version of whatever Firefox3 version will be included in the LTS point release.
This is precisely the kind of thing that the Hardy-LTS point releases are targeted to include.
However, if you are asking for a new upstream version before the point release and outside of "proposed" I suggest you forget it and download the build on firefox.com if you simply can not wait for it and if you are not willing to use, the official Ubuntu pre-release channels.
