Related to: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Description
A LOT of work needs to be done in NM...

So far:

- Proper WPA/WPA2 Support

- Wireless Refresh option. (on top of the option list below the detected connections)

- "Repair" Connection (a la Windows) AND Disconnect Option in a MENU when you RIGHT CLICK current connection.

- Autodetection of password: Users don't have to say what kind of password they are entering (passphrase/HEX/ASCII..) and it automatically detects it like in other OSs.

- Possibility to connect without being asked the password.

- Proxy, SSH, VPN...

- Better Wifi configuration/management GUI

And so on...

How would you be able to connect to a internet connection without being asked the password?

Also there needs possibility for bridging the network...

Omnibus ideas like this are cumbersome, this should be split into separate ideas.

"Repair" Connection (a la Windows)

thats already implemented since very old versions

also, check the latest version 0.7 included in Fedora and see what other features are not already implemented

-1, this should be split into several bugs against NM.

Most of these ideas already float around brainstorm. Instead of collecting them in yet another idea, why don't you go and report these to the devs?

Agree with WPA issues!

Battling right now with getting WPA working!
Network-Manager in 8.04 can connect my two different USB wifi antennas to unprotected and WEP networks, but not WPA.

Some of the UI improvements that could be used can be seen in "Wicd"... But no WPA joy there either.

WPA is expanding use in many many locations and is badly needed.

refresh: Some drivers just plain don't support this, or support it partially or just incorrectly. Little can be done about it, except to next time get supported hardware.

repair: re-select the connection from the menu. works for any kind of connection in roaming mode.

vpn stuff is there if the packages are installed

better wifi gui: amen.

- Possibility to connect without being asked the password. ?

SURE! when the network doesn't have password!
actually I just can't connect to networks with no password enabled, (for example at the school)

Incredible!

I must reboot on windows to do that...

TOO BAD.
