Now is says that the currently loaded plugins do not provide means to burn such disks.

Oddly enough, yesterday I ran into this problem. Looks like I'll just have to go with k3b or GnomeBaker.

I kinda find it strange there are a lot of ideas for "making application X do this" as I don't think Canonical can tell developers what to do. Perhaps they can exert pressure, but that makes them more Microsoft-y.

I just found this, https://code.launchpad.net/~vcs-imports/brasero/trunk if you search for "Dual Layer", you will find that they have added it at may 10.:)
