I'm not sure it makes sense to use enlightenment at the moment at all, because enlightenment are moving towards having their own full-blown desktop environment. So what Happens then? Keep using E16 and eGnome, move back to gnome, or move to E17 instead?

I assume E-gnome is just gnome with Enlightenment as the window manager?

E-gnome runs the gnome desktop inside the Enlightenment windows manager, yes, and if you Alt-Rightclick the gnome desktop, you can iconify it. The reason you would want to do this is because the Enlightenment menus list more programs, and you need to Ctrl+click on the Enlightenment desktop to change the themes.e

In the eyes of many people, this will show up as "more crap I have to remove". Don't go. Not for servers. Not installed on desktops by default either, but for different reasons.
