Description
Ubuntu needs a far better look 'n feel. They should be individually customizable
1.It needs atleast two pre-defined themes like Aero-Vista etc. (Better than what windows or mac can do)
2.It has to contain several cursors better than Vista cursor(Like the cursor-rotating-circle when busy)
3.Glass icons and buttons should be implemented (close, minimize, maximize, scrollbar)
5.The toolbar should have a glass or more sophisticated look
The start-menu(Main menu) should be better than Vista.
7.Main menu should be customizable to have various colours with transparency
8.The menus in the Nutilus bar (file, edit, view, go, bookmarks, help) should be customizable to change colours and transparency.
9.The Nautilus location-bar should be clickable in tree format(like in vista, i.e dropdown list) instead of button tree.

I think (I'm not sure) all of this features already exist but are not included by default. Or at least Kubuntu has some of it, and KDE4 looks a lot like vista, whether you like it or not. So maybe you just have to install kubuntu-desktop and use kubuntu to have more of "windows" look.

Gnome was what I had in mind. I guess you are right. But the issue is they should be there by default.

Does it really? I wouldn't have thought so. :-\

Must confess, I manage to get (what I think is) a very nice look and feel using the customisation facilities already available.

I suggest trying to learn about the features already available in Gnome. Maybe if you put in the same effort learning about Gnome as you have clearly put in learning about Vista you will gain a great deal of knowledge.

Alternatively, if all you want is CPU killing super fancy eye candy then look up project looking glass.

However, if (as I suspect) what you _really_ want is the Vista gui, then you are welcome to use Vista. Of course to do so you will be required to pay the relevant tax and put up with the significant restrictions on usability and flexibility. It's entirely up to you, the choice is yours.

Vote = -1

fir of all: "apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager"

> 1.It needs atleast two pre-defined themes like Aero-Vista etc.

you have more then two themes by default. You also have the possibility to use compiz or metacity and if you go to http://art.gnome.org you have hundreds of themes for free. In windows you have for free few crappy themes.

> 2.It has to contain several cursors better than Vista cursor(Like the cursor-rotating-circle when busy)

You already have this, even if it's not by default: "apt-get install gcursors" and then you can install cursor themes as much as you whish.

> 3.Glass icons and buttons should be implemented (close, minimize, maximize, scrollbar)

We had this with Emerald. But now emerald is not used anymore.... and I don't know why. Yep.... emerald was very nice!

5.The toolbar should have a glass or more sophisticated look

You can use transparency on it, or some pattern .... what you need more? Macromedia embedded in the toolbar? Ringing bells?

> 6. The start-menu(Main menu) should be better than Vista.

What is better and what is worse?

> 7.Main menu should be customizable to have various colours with transparency

Perhaps, it should inherit the properties from the toolbar where it's running.... if toolbar is transparent, it becomes transparent as well. yes.

> 8.The menus in the Nautilus bar (file, edit, view, go, bookmarks, help) should be customizable to change colours and transparency.

yes/no .... I don't mind too much.

9.The Nautilus location-bar should be clickable in tree format(like in vista, i.e dropdown list) instead of button tree.

you *have* a tree on the right pane: you can choose between tree, and other things...

If you want a GUI that looks more like Windows, use KDE. If you want to bring in some sexy effects, use Compiz. If you want different themes, Google for them - you will find lots which are free to download.

There's plenty of choice to customise how Ubuntu looks, its just not immediately obvious. Perhaps it would be better if the Appearance dialog suggested other ways to change the look and feel - links to theme websites, option to install Compiz perhaps?

+1 for the idea, -1 'cos it's already implemented = vote = 0.

Hey guys, You should see my Gnome over here. Everybody is drooling over it. The thing is it looks none like Vista or Mac, but its much better. Compiz and all look and feel is the most important thing in an OS. Why did Bill Gates become the richest?(no longer though). Because he managed to make an os COMMUNICATE in a very USER FRIENDLY nice way. If it was still terminal, then nobody would use windows. We are experienced in PCs. But most people are just beginners. So Ubuntu better have a default look and feel far better than any os. Many Graphic designers can help with this. If you protest any more I'm going to provide you a screen shot of how an os can look like, Mine:) Thanks guys. Be optimistic. We've gotto beat them. They CHARGE MONEY!
