Description
Made popular by Apple, kinetic scrolling is a much more intuitive interface for navigating pages. Not only making touch-screens more interactive, the "real" feel of a kinetic scroll provides a more natural grasp of what is being done. It is easier to control and predict, and streamlines the work process. In addition, it's fun to look at. Ubuntu would benefit from this both through an asthetic boost and by providing an interface that is truly "for human beings".

Note: there would be an option to revert to the normal way.

Interesting.

Pretty cool, but I can imagine it being pretty annoying though.

An option would be nice.

Evince does it and it really adds to the feel.

+1

I have a touch-screen/tablet pc, and this is the one thing that I would probably like to have the most (aside from compatibility issues being fixed of course), because its just more intuitive and easier to keep track of than the current mouse-gesture/scrollbar options when in tablet mode...

How does Evince do it when Gnome's backwardness has prevented the option of even setting the number of lines scrolled for the mouse wheel.

I would assume this would be useful for a mouse wheel and for tablets. I dont kinetics work if you applied to to normal scrollbar interaction (click up and down arrows and dragging the scrollbar). Other than that I like the idea. I always thought that was what firefox meant by 'smooth scrolling' but was sorely disappointed.

Sounds like something for the Compiz folks to look at.

chezifresh: Smooth scrolling in Firefox/IE means that when you scroll a webpage, it is done smoothly as opposed to the jerky movement of one line of text at a time. It has no relation to kinetic scrolling, it just makes it easier to read while scrolling.

The desktop zoom currently behaves like this, with great results. You don't have to overdo it like in the posted video, where it seems to never stop scrolling!
