Idea #8361: Same base, more themes, different colours, simple install

Written by markpersy the 11 May 08 at 12:18. Category: Look and Feel. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
It would be great if there were a definited .deb packages with GDM, wallpapers, cursors, metacity themes (e.g. Human Murrine) but using green, yellow, orange, red, blue colours. And these themes would be easy to install using Synaptic (like blubuntu).
All themes would be based on the current human theme (e.g Heron), but using different colours. Many people don't like the brown default scheme colour, but I only suggest to make easier to switch to another colour based themes.

I am all for more themes so +1.
But theming should be a user task ;-)
Plus it's not too difficult to just change the color of a theme; that's why we have Gimp :-D

Yeah, I like the brown theme, its nice.

But then I try to show off Ubuntu to others, and they're like "Eww, its brown!" and they think its ugly.

I must have a professional looking blue or green theme.

Damn right. Ubuntu users seem to delude themselves that brown is a good colour choice for the distro but anyone who is objective about it can see that the vast majority of feedback from people is they hate it.

The day you guys get some combination of brown/orange which is actually nice looking is the day Ubuntu wins substantial mind share.
