Rawsausage, I cannot understand if you are speaking of an already existent plug in or if you are suggesting to create one.

If it already exists could you please tell me where i find it? I did not see anything in the repos and I have been trying to configure it manually for quite some time but with no success and a lot of profanities so I am definitely in favor of a snappy solution.

This would hopefully be a good solution for us VirtualBox users that want to use Host Networking without using so many crazy scripts to manage it. Read the Network section from Ubuntu's Virtualbox docs:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/VirtualBox#Networking

And tell me how this is for human beings.

Absolute +1 from me.

A lot of the networking UI in Windows is fairly intuitive. Depending on external apps to abstract the functionality clearly is risky.

Either we need gnome-ish windows that have it all, or those apps need to be simplified for people to build an understanding on top of.

The Windows implementation is indeed sound (which is rare in my experience) but I propose we do something a little more snazzy.

I say there should be a simple, icon-based network manager as an alternative, which shows all the available network connections as icons surrounding the computer, and if you drag between the computer and an icon you create a network connection with some default settings but a dialogue pops up so you can confirm the settings before clicking ok; the advantage of this is that you can also drag between network connections to create bridges, or right-click on a space and click "add other host" or something and it would add another network/internet host, which you could drag between your host and theirs to create a VPN. Or you could drag a connection to the host to setup using it as a proxy on that connection.

Perhaps I'm just rambling... I'll set to work on a mock-up nonetheless and see if I can get in touch with the networkmanager guys about this (stop me if I'm wasting my time)
