Description
Sometimes when I click the little notification icon for update manager it takes a while for the app to launch. Not sure whether I actually clicked the icon I click it again. This usually leads to that I have something like 2 - 3 instances of the update manager running.

It would be better if ubuntu didn't allow multiple instances of the update manager and other apps where there is absolutely no need to have more than one window open. The same goes for add/remove and others...

I think that is more of a problem of getting the Update Manager to start faster then prevent apt-get front ends from having more then one instance open at once.

you should see how a simple terminal opens after 15 seconds, and without any visual OUTPUT based on my input (cursor style working in background) you tend to click it 10 times ... and after a period of time ... the entire screen is filled!

This seems a bit of a bug between the keyboard and the chair to me: I guess that knowing that my sistem is not really lightning-responsive I'd wait a bit more before clicking 20 times on an icon which is not responding. Moreover AFAIK the update window is not an instance of a package manager yet (in fact you can open more than one), once you commit changes in one window you cannot do anything from the others (except perhaps reading the changelogs, but I'm not sure).

I've got a dual core II at 2 Ghz and 2 Go of ram but even with that, some little apps (terminal, update manager etc.) needs some seconds to open. (i'll never understand why linux can render big 3D stuffs fast or play 10 divx movies at the same times but can't handle this simple responsivness problem !)

So yeah: using some semaphores with Update Manager, Pidgin, Liferea, Evolution, aMule, Transmission, Rhythmbox etc. would be nice.

XVIIarcano, I don't click it 20 times but since I'm not always sure wether I clicked it in the first place I click it one or two times more. This is normal behavior for most users (especially newbies) so if the goal is to be user-friendly then I think ubuntu should disallow more than one window in those apps.

I think the best way, is queue them up. So that they open as the last one finishes

pepperpupper, if i click something and nothing happens, an i click it again ... NOTHING ... what should i do in ubuntu? quit? or open another app? or install Konsole, or just recompile my kernel, write drivers? WTF!?!!>@

Another app on this list should be mythtv-frontend, there's no need to run more than one instance of that, and it takes a second to start up so it's possible to click the button more than once.
