Description
Please provide a way of comunication for brainstorm users. So we can contact each other and send messages, e.g. to start implementing a brainstorm idea.

I agree with this idea, cause it allows me to get in touch with other coders.. HOWEVER, all messages sent MUST be public, or you start to form exclusive clans, etc. We need to keep it open.

Also, keeping it public helps ensure that spammers are kept under control

Well once you get to the design/implementation stage I think it is no longer a Brainstorm issue. At that point you need a mailing list, source repository, web page, IRC channel. Why continue to work through brainstorm?

Probably it would be sufficient to, if you click on a ID, not only get the person's ideas but a way to send a single email message to them where you can request they contact you via your email address.

I don't personally think that needs to be public. It just gives a way of connecting with another person which is hard to argue against.

I agree with jhoger. It is not necessary to make it public. It is perfectly fine if you have a way of connecting with another person to request an email or icq number...

If its private, you start to get spam issues, and small groups of friends forming who vote for each others ideas.

Everything on brainstorm should be open. because the main point is generating ideas

:) Ok, thats a good point Auzy, but otherwise if all messages are public, I do not need direct contact to other brainstorm users, because I can put a new comment to the idea with my email and request for contact information of the idea's owner. Actually I do not want to make my e-mail address public to anybody, especially not to bad spammers.
I think that there are allready small groups of friends in here and they do exactly know the nick name of the their friends. Those people do not need a notification system in brainstorm.ubuntu.com, they are allready able to contact each other, I think.

IMO the ability to contact other brainstormers is useful when some people want to take an idea further.

Following jhoger comment, I see:
In the user page (to come very soon), put a "Contact xxxx" link, with a textbox and a send button. No email address shown.
A brainstormer use this textbox to send a message to another brainstormer. The addressee receive the message in his mailbox, and can reply directly to the sender email, if he wants.

To avoid spam:
- Email address are never shown on the website.
- Brainstormers would be able to disable private messages.
- A brainstormer shall wait a given amount of time between each sending, e.g. 1 minute.
