Description
I think we should take animated desktops one step further and have interactive desktops.

Have a few preloaded in some special format that when you click and hold and move the mouse over the screen, we see a water wave effect. When you have an open window, bubbles subtly radiate from the borders and gentle waves come from the sides. When you move the window, the water is disturbed and creates small waves where the window was just as if you moved a plastic sheet over water. In the background is an animated desktop that also simulates water, fire, or whatever the file is made as. This could be one of the options, but many more would be available, or users could just turn it off.

Now THAT would be really cool

This si where GTK kinda really fails and QT4 takes over. With QT4, its possible to add this functionality to the program internally for better results possibly, instead of just compiz

Exactly these kinds of things Ubuntu developers cannot work with, this depends of your desktop environment not from the distribution.

It already exists as a Compiz option, some computer don't handle this plugin that well.

I think developers can work on those things, they just have to make it optional.

Now THAT would be really wasteful of CPU cycles and RAM. :-(

Oh no.. not cpu cycles..

linux is about choice, I would have this installed because, like most other people, my computer can easily run it.

So +1

Just because your computer can handle this kind of stuff easily does not mean its not wasted :)

Touché! :-)

If you have CPU cycles to spare, go be part of some distributed computing network (in research for AIDS-, Parkinson-medication or something similar great).
