You should be able to. There's a tiny yellow pencil icon.

That's very neat, nice work!

Though -- big background images are bad. But still, amazing :)

its a bit dark, and the title/heading font colors don't have enough contrast, but overall, pretty cool!

if you dont mind, can I possibly modify the design a little bit just to mess with it? Im just curious as to how it would look in a few variations...

but I gotta say, this is better than what ubuntu has up now, so keep up the good work.

neat but you need some white.

Totally Agree!!! Awesome work

In my opinion, it's not ideal, but better then ubuntu.com has now.

Great!(^.^)

It looks very nice!

However, I see the same problems on this first page as on the current website:
- lack of clear structure combined with...
- menus with overlapping meaning: news vs latest news, support vs get support, learn more vs find out more. No way to tell if these links lead to the same place or not and if you're missing out on sthg. it would be better without redundancy.

I really prefer homepages organised like a site map (in hierarchical fashion).

I also think Ubuntu should have a 'developer's corner' webpage that would be referenced on the main page

Awesome, much better that today's Ubuntu website.
Very neat and polished.
I like this darker variant, but agree that title/heading font colors contrast should be increased.

@Adys
"big background images are bad" - Why? What do you propose instead?

@pt123
"neat but you need some white" - I don't think so. Just look at the actual Ubuntu website... http://www.ubuntu.com/

BTW,
this remark is not for the Author of the mockup,
but I'm sure that there should be a link to
http://getdeb.net/
at the main Ubuntu.com website. Maybe in the "Community" section?

Furthermore, GetDeb.net appearance should also be refreshed to fit the NEW (I hope) Ubuntu.com from the mockup.

oblique63: Youre free to do whatever you want. :)

The XCF file can be found here: http://www.speedyshare.com/127320725.html

It's a bit messy.

I like it in general.. But I do kinda feel it needs to be made a tiny bit more vibrant.

Certainly a +1, the vibrancy is something that can be fixed.

Cypher wrote on the 8 May 08 at 14:07
Like it, +1

What about other xUbuntu websites ? (especially Kubuntu.org)

Adys wrote on the 8 May 08 at 15:18
Ubuntu4fun:
Big background images can cause loading problems for slow connections, and scrolling problems for slow computers. In general, it's better to use a small repeated background or a plain color.

Too brown for black text (white background with black text is always needed in terms of usability).

Bring down that brown menu bar and attach it to the main content and you've got an alright design.

Good luck parsing that into HTML/CSS and wrapping into Drupal however.

Looks great, but lacks the corporate style that i feel is needed from a website like that.

Ubuntu needs to look serious, not like some nice toy.

hmm.Its good .But think a bit more laterally.+0 (no vote)
