Good idea!
Openoffice is now looking more like the older versions of Microsoft Office.

A good UI interface for me is one which fits in with the other apps on the desktop, whenever possible.
Some of the icons in OpenOffice could do with a tidy up and dialogs and buttons could be a bit more unified with the rest of the desktop, but other than that its not too bad.

The interface in OOo 3.0 IS going to change a bit...

I agree that OpenOffice.org sucks for having a cluttered, complicated interface (and for using some random toolkit that makes it generally look crap), but it isn't Ubuntu's job to fix that.

I really dont think the mac look is that different- it has the same huge icons and huge text in a different layout. How about smaller, nicer icons and better organization?

I like what acelin said, but as long as we don't have too many dang icons. How about we have well-sized and placed icons that are actually nicely-animated menus? We can have the standard menu bar, then this special toolbar, then a multi-bar that changes depending if you're working with text, pictures, objects, media, etc.
I submitted my idea for a UI that was like gOOGLE

I agree, but this has nothing to do with Ubuntu. This is a request for the OpenOffice developers.

Better yet, more Document support for Abiword. Abiword is simple and easy to use.

> MS office new interface sucks and its messy ..
You're kidding, right? The Ribbon is brilliant. Anyone who has actually used it for more then 2 minutes, or at all, would agree.
But yes, OO needs a better GUI.

I like both I must say. the new MS Office one and the one used by OOO. I think people put too much empasis on these. I've got to say, even after their whole redesign of the interface, MS haven't been able to come up with an easy to use system to deal with styles and numbering hierarchy in numbered lists. OOo still does a better job at it, as it has for the past few years.

IMHO, it's much more important that OOo on Ubuntu looks like OOo everywhere else than it is that OOo looks amazing on Ubuntu - especially since you're not going to get any consensus on what looks amazing. (You may get a clear majority - but that's different from consensus.)
