Description
When I login to a GNOME session, the windows appear glitchy and fragmented until the desktop is done loading. When i login to a KDE(4) Session, I see a very nice splash screen, which then fades out to a fully loaded desktop. A default GNOME installation should support complete loading of the desktop before it is displayed.

Good idea

Agree with Eldmannen. Splash screens stink. They actually make launch feel slower to me since I cannot tell what is happening.

Please focus effort instead on actually speeding up the launch.

I had this idea before you!

But I don't like splash screens.

anti-splash-screen people, would you really rather see unusable panels and icons flickering?... I personally dislike splash screens when they are pointless and obtrusive, but hiding the unprofessional look of the desktop loading is hardly interfering with anything (since you wouldn't be able to use it until it's loaded anyway), and makes the overall ubuntu experience seem a lot smoother and less 'buggy' to the average user...

so I dont know what the big deal is with this particular splash screen idea, but it gets a +1 from me.

Every good programmer knows that the reason you use splashscreens is that it makes booting time seem shorter, and provides more feedback.

We should definately have one, so that you dont think your computer has crashed on slower systems (like I thought on my laptop).

+1

With the KDE splashscreen, you just click it and it's gone..

i don't care if a have a loading bar or blinking icons i just don't want to see a half ready desktop!

There doesn't have to a splash screen, just show the wallpaper, then fade everything in when its ready. I'm sure that's how a certain cat related operating system does it.
