Description
Option GlobeTrotter 3G / UMTS/ EDGE should work out-of-the-box in Ubuntu. UMTSMON provides such functionality (also sim cards with pin % puk configuration) but we need support well-integrated with existing tools (network-manager, gnome network settings). PCMCIA modems like Globetrotters are getting more, and more popular on Laptops.

Thumb up for this one. I use UMTS PCMCIA modem a lot, but having this configured is quite painful, not to mention there's no usable tool to manage even modem connection. Also NetworkManager having "Connect to ppp0" is not sufficient. It does not provide any feedback or easy setting and it works if you are lucky.
