Idea #7846: Desktop monitor/internal monitor switching for notebook users

Written by mrjobson the 29 Apr 08 at 19:05. Category: Graphics. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
Me and my friends are using notebook as desktop computer and very rarely as laptop. So we want to have an easy solution to switch off internal screen and use external screen with high resolution. And to back up to internal screen when external screen in disconnected (cable unplugged). Easy switching without restarting X!

Isn't xrandr a solution? It should be.

But it (=Screen resolution tool) doesn't see newly connected screens to my nvidia card...

yeah, xrandr is not solution. there is millions of ways switching monitor outlets. easy and hard for different cards. but there is no unified way to do that! :(( If power fails and external monitor does not work... and i have a lots of work unsaved? It is stupid, that i have to run somewhere to connect my notebook and to switch monitor :))
