Idea #7834: System Monitor should have an applet meter for free disk space

Written by Endolith the 29 Apr 08 at 14:45. Category: System. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
In Windows, there is a program that shows free disk space on selected partitions in the form of a pie chart:

In Ubuntu, you can get a series of bar graphs by opening System Monitor, and there's more detailed pie charts in Disk Usage Analyzer, but there's no equivalent applet for displaying this in the panel.

Solution #1: System Monitor should show a meter with bar graphs

System Monitor provides applets for CPU, memory, etc. It should provide one for free hard drive space, too.

Here's a mockup of what I'm imagining

Right-click on partition, select "Properties".

Or Applications->Accessories->Disk Usage Analyzer.

Or "you can get a series of bar graphs by running System Monitor", as I already said. The title of this idea says "panel applet".

Yeah, the applet would make it more pretty, and much easier.

more than a year passed, and the applet is still not done :(((

It's kind of sad that the poster posts a screenshot from Windows95, and our shiny Ubuntu operating system doesn't have an equivalent "intuitive" pie chart from a properties menu on a partition. :-)

I prefer bar charts to pie charts, but yeah, Linux is still playing catch-up with Windows 95.
