Description
There should be a caps-lock warning everywhere, where any manual typing of passwords is required. This way you wont mistype it accidentally leaving the caps-lock on.

What do you mean by 'everywhere'. Using gksudo, there is a warning when capslock is on.

Indeed. Computer manufacturers should even built small light indicators into their hardware that light up whenever caps lock is on. Why has noone ever thought of this?!

Then we could built a special ubuntu branch which brings up huge notification windows reading "YOU ARE TYPING A PASSWORD AND YOUR CAPS LOCK LAMP IS ON. LOOK 20 CM DOWN!".

That'd be perfect!

Ubuntu should just disable the caps lock key in the default install.

What about a (gtk,qt,...) password widget with that built-in? (e.g. a tooltip or icon in textbox)

Apple approaches this in an elegant way actually.. It adds a symbol to the side of the textbox so you instantly know (cant find a screenshot though.

We can do the same, and people will notice easier

And btw, some keyboards don't have the little light that lights up..

Little icon. Good. :)

Oh yes, the notification can come in the form of an icon of course!

Prime Mover, right on. I use colemak.
www.colemak.com

....caps has never been anything but a problem to anyone I know, and it needs to be blasted off the face of the earth and replaced by backspace, as it is in aforementioned layout.

ethana2: good point, I wish I had a normal layout with caps-lock changed to backspace. (Since Colemak takes too much time at the beginning, but only this button change could right make a difference)
