Idea #7689: Integration of Open Source version of Power System Analysis simulation software.

Written by bhavi the 27 Apr 08 at 06:36. Category: Education. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
Hello again

How about including PSAT(Power System Analysis Toolbox) which is a open sourced version of electrical power system analysis software into ubuntu?

More info:

http://www.power.uwaterloo.ca/~fmilano/psat.htm

(Infact many of the available simulators run in wine but when a fully OSS version is available why not integrate and use it?)

Regards

Bhavani Shankar.

Integrate or include?

I'd vote for inclusion. I but I'm afraid I'm going to have to ridicule integration, how would that even work? Circuit diagrams in every menu?

Include in koctave or develop a GUI based power system analysis software (full fledged like oregano and geda)

Make it available in the repositories, yes, but I disagree with any idea of including it by default in the distribution. I simply don't see there would be that much interest it.

That said, I'd very likely install it and have a play around with it just for interest sake.

I wonder if the license presents a problem. "Permission to use, copy, modify, and distribute this software and its documentation for non-commercial purposes and without fee is hereby granted, provided that any use properly credits the author. Please refer to the No Warranty for use conditions."

yes then how about developing a full fledged open source software on power system analysis?
