Description
Hardy has been released with Firefox 3, but many popular extensions are not yet compatible with Firefox 3. As the wide availability of extensions is a major selling point for Firefox, this is a significant regression from Gutsy. Providing Firefox 3 compatible versions of popular extensions would make the transition to Hardy much more pleasant.
For some reason [1] below does not mention the problem of toolbar addon buttons going missing in Firefox 3. In any case a work around for this is to instruct the user to manually add the button by right-clicking the toolbar and selecting Customize.

agree with fabioamd87, should ubuntu developers not develop for ubuntu instead of firefox?

This is not a Firefox problem as a Firefox labels Firefox 3 with big "This is a beta do not use this". Ubuntu no longer has "This is a beta do not use this" warnings on Hardy.
Note that Firefox is one of two applications that appear on the gnome-panel by default.
Also the team doesn't need to be Canonical employees. I have submitted debdiffs on launchpad so I could be loosely labeled an Ubuntu developer. Indeed, I tried to update some extensions, but I found it difficult without any prior experience with Firefox development. For this reason I decided it would be more productive for me to focus on projects that I was already familiar with (e.g. compcache), unless I was part of a team with more experienced developers than myself.

Firefox != Ubuntu
Ubuntu developers have nothing to do with Firefox, all they have done is include it in the distro.

There are a lot of other ideas that relate to upstream projects in general and Firefox in particular, e.g.:
http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/7495/
Ubuntu already provides support for various extensions via Ubufox.
http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy/web/ubufox
Do you find this idea to be particularly objectionable? Or should we perhaps have a "no upstream ideas" idea, suggesting that no ideas relating to upstream projects (firefox, gnome, kde, etc.) be posted?

So this idea is basically "done" then, I guess.
