Description

It's a slippery road for Gnome to go after Mono. The reason for which Gnome was created does not exist (qt loophole). Novel and leader of gnome are not so clear about their intentions. KDE4 is really ahead of time. Maybe Ibex should go for KDE 4.1 as the default Desktop
Environment?

GTK3 may have had a lot done by the time gnome gets released..

I agree about gnome and mono but I think it would be easier for ubuntu to just not include MONO by default and offer alternatives for the 3 meaningless MONO apps being pushed by gnome at the moment.

The reasons you invoke are not clear.

Is this a new episode in the "KDE vs. GNOME" wars? While I don't trust MONO (and while still being impressed by C#), you have offered no real reason to make this switch happen.

I have yet to hear GNOME became proprietary, or that it failed in a spectacular way.

GNOME vs. KDE (and vs. other window managers) is a matter of taste, and for now, Ubuntu lets us choose the window manager we want to use. I guess this is more than enough.

1) KDE4 (v4.1) will be out by july 2008. Ibex will be out October 2008.

2) It makes sense to me since I believe that kde has more features than gnome (I was using gnome for some years) and is a movement that makes gnome foundation to rethink of the mono crap (remember gnome delegate voted yes fro OOXML)

Kubuntu Intrepid Ibex now have KDE 4.1 by default, however the default environment for "ubuntu" is still GNOME, as of today.
