Idea #7277: Human GTK theme for Wine

bug This idea was marked as being in development the 1 July 08.
Written by Eldmannen the 19 Apr 08 at 19:57. Category: Look and Feel. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: In development
Rationale
I propose to creation of a theme for Wine that emulates the Human GTK look of Ubuntu.

This would make running Windows applications under Wine feel more integrated as they would look, feel and behave more like other applications in Ubuntu.

I don't necessarily propose this to be by default, but to be an option available in "Wine configuration" -> "Desktop integration" -> "Theme".

As I recall, someone did make one. It integrated perfectly, but slowed down Wine a *lot*. Like, watch tab borders draw slow. For an easier fix, try

That also has a link to the human theme for Wine.

[or just use native Linux apps...]

Wine should be fixed so rendering custom themes isn't that slow.

And remember that Kubuntu users also need normal theme for KDE)))

I see how primitive Windows looks when I use Wine. THE CURSOR ISN'T EVEN ANTI-ALIASED!!!!!

+1

I wrote a script that changes your Wine colors to match your Gnome theme. Some of the colors are not perfect matches yet, since I can't find anyone who can help me find the right GTK values, but it does a pretty good approximation for most themes:

Doable with wine-doors. Just install wine-doors here: http://www.wine-doors.org/releases/wine-doors_0.1.2_all.deb. , run wine-doors, search for UbuntuColours 1 and click "install".

Problem is, using a theme makes it really slow. Colors are one thing, but using themes and such slow it down to a crawl. Also, you'd need to do it dynamically, since not everyone uses human (Endolith's solution is nice).

Yes, Endolith's solution is a better idea. If Wine works slowly with themes then the Ubuntu team should help improve that.
