Description
I think it is very confusing that during installation, the screen suddenly becomes black. It would be much better if there would be at least a simple image, so that the screen does not look like the computer just crashed.

You're right - very confusing! It seems like a simple task to add another screen saver.
It would be great if it was something that would brand Ubuntu, like the flying Windows logo for MS - just anything using the Ubuntu logo would do.

In addition a black screen does not save energy on an LCD monitor.

Maybe this idea could be used to partly implement idea 7247.
Whether it is or not; Vote = +1

Or otherwise, possibly the screen saver should be inhibited during installation.
Even after an install, with LCD monitors now the norm a blank screen screensaver is of dubious value - you might as well switch the display to standby and turn the backlight off instead. Having blank screen screensaver can confuse people between it and the powersave modes. Having some sort of image reminds people that the monitor is still fully on and using power.
However it does need to be a low-computation screensaver. The opengl and graphically intensive ones can easily draw 10W to 20W extra from the supply when they are running.

My vote is for a very simple RSS reader screensaver, with a big "% remaining" in some corner of the screen.

yes, a black screen while installing does not make much sense, maybe just a screensaver with ubuntu logo floating around or something, so the user knows the PC has not crashed...

Just inhibit the screensaver, like for example movie players do.

Good idea, but it should incorporate a progress bar and some big text saying "Ubuntu is being installed".

The screensaver should be disabled during installation.

Very good idea. It can be really unnerving - not the best first experience of ubuntu for some.

I'm wondering why this idea isn't already marked as "Implemented". It seems very easy for the developers to either disable the screensaver or change it into a floating Ubuntu logo or something like that.
I really like the presentation idea mentioned earlier - I think there's already a team working on that!

Disabling the screen saver during install is acceptable. However I would prefer to see a progress bar with Ubuntu log saying the software is being loaded.
A little ad in the bottom saying what's NEW in the version being installed would also be nice.
Thanks

I vote for having something displayed, but not disabled. No one wants to accidentally burn in a Ubuntu desktop on their CRT.
