Idea #7223: Extend battery life like it was in feisty

bug This idea is a duplicate of Idea #81: Power Management.
Written by briansvgs the 18 Apr 08 at 17:15. Category: System. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
I don't know if this could be fixed, because I don't know what caused it, but when I upgraded from feisty to gutsy, my battery life dropped from ~6 hours to ~4 hours. This isn't the only report that I have read about this either. If we could make ubuntu power efficient again at some point, that would be really cool.

Try installing the "powertop" package to see what is sucking so much battery life. I had gnome-power-manager installed on my laptop by hardy beta and it was unnecessary.

Search the launchpad bug tracker and submit a bug if there isn't one, that is a more appropriate tool.

@kenden: I don't agree, I think this is the perfect place for such a message. As a basic user, how are you supposed to know where to post such a thing when you don't know what is causing the problem, the only things you know for sure are the OS versions and the change in battery life. Launchpad is just not very user friendly, the search tool doesn't work that well (doesn't accept jokers, I think?).
