Description
When the mouse is set as default (right-handed mouse), the mouse pointer points to the left, like a right arm aiming.
So, when the mouse is set as Left-handed, the pointer should point to the right, like a left arm aiming.
It feels strange to have the pointer in the 'wrong direction' when using the mouse with the left hand!

This could done automatically when changing from Right-Handed to Left-Handed in Preferences > Mouse.
Or this could be done manually afterwards by going to Preferences > Appearance > Theme > Customize... > Pointer > choosing a 'lefthanded' Pointer.
Right now, there is no 'left-handed' pointers in Hardy.

Sheesh! Why do you have to be so awkward? Does the whole world have to change to suit you? Just put your left arm on the right! ;)
Sorry, just kidding. Yeah, it's a good idea. No reason why the pointer shouldn't match the hand you're using.

Hardly any left handed person switches a mouse to left handed. And even if they did, i would not see a reason for this programming effort.

This would require a new set of cursor themes, as well as having the mouse preferences change the theme to the alternate version, if it exists.
Even if there were a method in X for flipping the cursor image and its hot spot, it would be inappropriate to make the change there, since it would also flip cursors that shouldn't be changed, like the left/right window border cursors.
However, I think a "reversed" cursor theme would also find favor among those who use right-to-left languages like Hebrew.
+1 for the theme (but not for linking it to the mouse preferences).

this is a great idea.
It helps make it more obvious to users that the mouse settings have been changed, so they are slightly less confused.
+1

I'm left handed. I use the mouse in my left hand (which does annoy the next person who uses the computer). I have never had to inform any operating system that I am using my left hand - the mouse has always been one of those things that 'just worked' in either hand.
Is there some reason why the OS needs to know this information? (other than to flip the mouse pointer over?)

@steve196: Show me your stats!
@kenden: I totally agree and came across this idea as I was about to propose it myself. 2008 will be the year of the left-handed desktop!
+1 to a reverse cursor theme linked to the mouse button preferences.
PS @davosmith:
I guess you use your left hand, but don't switch the primary and secondary buttons (System > Preferences > Mouse.)
As a left hander also, I find swapping the buttons far more comfortable as you are then able to do your "left-clicking" with your index finger on the right button. It's the *first* thing I change when installing an OS.
