Description
make it possible to install latest kernel by default in updates,because there are lot of bugs fixed in new kernels.

Yes, these can be in the hardy-proposed or hardy-backports repository.

Having a metapackage like linux-image-generic means the latest available is installed. Then it's up to the repos.

Like Warbo said, you just have to install the linux-* metapackages that depend on the latest kernel.

New kernels can bring new APIs, and instability. This should be considered VERY carefully.
New is not always best, I run my system with the second-newest kernel in Ubuntu because the newest doesn't boot for me.
