Create and Integrate a simple graphic software

Ubuntu lacks of a simple graphic software such as kolourpaint, but for the Gnome interface. In fact, kolourpaint is a good software, but is full of buggs (on Ubuntu at least).

So it could be a good thing to offer from start (just after installation and on the live-CD) a kolourpaint-like software, because gThumb do not allow to do small things like drawing, and Gimp is far too complicated for task like screenshot-modifications.

Moreover, a system of tabs (like in Firefox or in Gedit) would be a very good !

Everybody will tell me : "yeah, but Gpaint already exist !" Yes, but : Gpaint is not available on Ubuntu from the start, it doesn't provide tabs, and KolourPaint is closer from MS Paint than GPaint. Don't forget that MS Paint is a usefull software on Windows, and lots of people expect to find such a software on Ubuntu. Neither KolourPaint nor Gpaint are installed from start...

Yeah, a simple paint software would be good.

Microsoft Paint is awesome. It has no anti-aliasing, and you can zoom, so its really good for making simple stuff and pixel art.

GIMP is great, but its a 800 pound gorilla. :)

I think something between Microsoft Paint and the GIMP should be aimed for. Simple doesn't have to mean bad, and I think Paint is bad. A lot of people use it only because it is there, if something more powerful was there (but still simple) then that would be used.

For example, would it really make the software more complicated if it had a full truecolour-gradient-spectrum widget at the bottom instead of a discrete set of colours? Adding power does not mean a sacrifice in usability or intuitiveness, in fact it can add to them (but of course adding power to a free program does mean a sacrifice in people wanting to buy a more complete piece of software from a company, for instance Microsoft, which is why I feel Paint hasn't had and will not get significant updates)
