Idea #6931: Driver for Sweex Digital Photo Key Chain

Written by DutchDude the 13 Apr 08 at 11:08. Category: Hardware support. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
The Digital Photo Key Chain by Sweex is a device that enables you to take photos with you and display them without a computer.

I cannot load photos on it with Ubuntu at this moment. I guess there is a driver needed.

Talk to the manufacturer to support Linux.

I agree that it would better if the manufacturer would make one. But this manufacturer does not.

There are groups actually working on hardware drivers for Linux, and this idea is intended for them. As gadgets like the Digital Photo Key Chain are popular, such drivers are important for the large scale adoption of Ubuntu.

Actually, it could become another selling point of Ubuntu. Although this gadgets is popular and cool, the Windows software that is provided by the manufacturer has a low usability. It should be easy to design better software for Linux (e.g. making the photo storage map accessible from Nautilus).
