Description
I think Canonical should have to support and improve 3D projects, in order to jeopardy the Micro$oft DirectX' API.
It's interesting for all 3D games, or other apps.
I hope 3D developpers will be interested, and will migrate to GNU/Linux.

+1 Before DirectX took off game developers were using OpenGl to begin with and if done properly a re-compile would have their game working on linux/mac/pc/whatever so long as OpenGl is supported (bigger platform base, more money for developers)...

From what I know of both APIs is that OpenGL by itself is not the problem... It seems the issue is more like: IDE->Drivers->Documentation->API, being a good & user friendly (open source?) IDE is what is missing most, compared to Direct3D (Visual Studio)...

With eclipse getting better, its not as bad anymore. Its just developers need to get used to the new GUI.
The main issue I'd say is that developers know all the tricks in Visual C++ to speed up code, which gives me an idea

I've seen some projects on Sourceforge related to this idea. Maybe an idea to team up with them?

CodeBlocks + Irrlicht should be able to solve this.

Excellent idea, though i,m not sure how are you suggesting canonical should support them.
Games are one of the main bullet points that Microsoft uses against Linux, Opengl 3.0 is a key-factor in solving this issue.

Of course! I think somebody should make an OpenGL showcase to show that OpenGL can look as good as/better than DirectX.
