Idea #6729: Add "Get-You" to Ubuntu Sources

Written by Raybuntu the 9 Apr 08 at 19:47. Category: Internet & Networking. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
I found a very smart tool named "Get-You" https://launchpad.net/get-you/
It's for downloading videos from videosites like Youtube, Myvideo, Dailymotion (pivate and public videos), Google Video , Clipfish, MTV.de Video (german), Netlog, Pro Sieben Video (German), Yahoo Video, Sevenload, Myspace Video, daleaplay.com, rofl.to, myubo.sk, holylemon.com, loadup.ru, guba.com, revver.com and so on! (This Sites are next: http://get-you.inmediato.de/index.php/videoportalsammlung.html)
It can convert the vids in mpg or export the mp3 from the Videos. It can be used in the terminal or with a GUI! The GUI is written in Java and can search videos directly without internet browser. The main Homepage is http://get-you.inmediato.de/ (german).

try the youtube-dl package, videos can then be converted with ffmpeg or mencoder

1. Get-You supports more video portals than only YouTube.
2. Why using 3 different commands if you can have the same with one command?

Nice tool, Raybuntu.

Check Pytube: www.bashterritory.com/pytube/

It is a GUI in PyGTK+ based in youtube-dl

Raybuntu wrote on the 10 Apr 08 at 06:16
"youtube-dl" can only download from Youtube! "Get-You" can download at least from Dailymotion, Myvideo, Spike.... and so on! You can search your videos from all videosites in the GUI at the same time. And there is a browser plugin for Firefox and Opera too. And there will be more and more videosites in the future. It's a very intressting project.

Again, for people who don't read at all before commenting:

That project can handle more video portals than only YouTube!

Don't we have already "get-you2"?

+1 Please put it into the repos.

@Raybuntu: You could edit your idea and add some more video portals. This would make it more clear. Thanks.

Ok, done! This is a small list but it will be bigger i promise! If you find a Site that's not supported you can make a blueprint in Launchpad! Get-You2 is a branch of Get-You. Get-You is written in Bash (Shell) and Get-You2 is written in Python.

Try YouPlayer extension for Firefox. It doesn't support conversion, but who needs that when Totem playback capability of Flash video keeps improving (for example since 8.04 it's able to seek)...
