Description
This is how Windows Explorer handles zip files: if nautilus could do it for all archives types it would be great.

For all archives not, that would be bloat ("all" always means a lot), but for .zip and .tar.gz this can be useful.
Alternatively one could just make dragging and dropping between the archive app and nautilus work.

That would confuse the pants off me. I hated that feature in XP. File-roller is good enough.

I hate KDE for opening absolutely everyfile in Konqueror (I hope I'm not confusing it with another app).
What would be nice is to provide a "mount here" option to the file's right click menu. Clicking it would ask you to give the mountpoint name and mount it for you so you can browse it's contents at will and even access the files inside the archive from other applications without any change.

You can already open archives with Nautilus, at least tar- and bzip2-archives. This is done with GnomeVFS, see this linux.com article: http://www.linux.com/feature/130834
It explains command line tools but you can also use these URLs in Nautilus itself.

At first, the whole built in zip feature of XP was great. But after using it, compared to something like 7zip or winrar, it sucks. I hate it.

I think people hated that feature in XP was because it did not do it _properly_. That is, programs couldn't treat the zip-files as directories, so launching a installer like that did not work.
Also, people are afraid of bloat (it making Nautilus slower).
The truth is, that this would all happen quite differently than the way XP/explorer did that.
Nautilus would use gvfs to 'mount' the image using fuse. THis means it only lead the code to so, when you use the feature, and only when you click on it. (mounting would just be the default option)
THis is why I voted UP.
