Description
AbiWord is a lightweight word processor. Unlike OpenOffice.org Writer, AbiWord loads fast and has a smaller RAM footprint --meaning it doesn't slow down your computer.
The latest released version is 2.6.2 which includes many improvements and better integration with the ODF (the ISO standard). However, there is no .deb package to install it in Ubuntu.
Please, build a .deb package of the latest version of AbiWord and include it in the repositories, so people who want a light alternative of a word processor can use AbiWord.

Maybe Abiword is added to Hardy's repositories.

Not everyone is going to move to Hardy. How about a backport?

I am working on this, however, it is hard to get new versions in the ubuntu repositories. You can now see on that bug that the package for Hardy is nearly ready and we'll work to get it in by 8.04.1 (the first update). I'm personally going to backport it (using the PPA system - so you'll have to add a repository) to Dapper and Gutsy. Presumably an "official" backport can be requested once my packages hit the archive. (Note: I am an AbiWord developer.)
