Description
Redesign the login dialogs (login, GDM, KDM, ...) so that this will not happen to (me) anymore: while people are watching you log in, you make a mistake, you re-login and you accidentally type your password to the visible username field...!

Certainly great, but how do you want to do that?

I think the simplest solution would be paying attention to what you're doing. I've never had this problem as I'm sure most other users have not as well.

Even if I did support this idea, I have no idea how one would go about implementing a solution to this problem other than using a real-time comparison of your username/password which even then would most likely be a buggy/annoying solution.

I don't think there would be a way to do this, honestly. Any password could potentially be a username, and there'd be no way for the system to figure out if what you're typing is a password or username.

Maybe one way would be to have the fields for username and password placed differently, e.g. the username field would be on the left side of the window and the password field on the right side. And they should be both visible onscreen at the same time.

Maybe the screen could turn a certain color when reading the username, and a different one when reading the password.

Or "Enter username" / "Enter password" should be written with a huge font.

Or assign the left half of the screen to the username input, and the right side to the password input. Then dimm the right side when entering the username, and vice-versa.

Or mask both the username And the password with *s :)

I make the same mistake once in a while on GDM.
The username and password fields should be seperated,
like in the plain greater.
