Rationale
Why not add some bookmarks on the desktop when you install from the live CD? When I finaly went from win and installed Ubuntu 3 weeks ago I had no idea where to find guides, howtos, podcasts, screencasts and stuff like that. Theres tons of great stuff for the new linux user out there and it would help alot if there was links to some of them when ubuntu is installed.
If, and I emphasize, if this is to be done, please don't just ask the question (as suggested above), but also explain the implications of answering that questions (shortcuts being created on your desktop or whatever).
However, I have my doubts this is a good idea *at all* since there a as many Linux/Ubuntu resources as the internet is wide. Ans it is *very* wide. Once you select the lucky onces to be represented in a standard installation then will come the allegations from other sites *not* chosen.
This is kind of similar to what Microsoft does when they install their internet browser as default so that the valued user can browse the internet in order to find the best browsers available and then chose for himself. You know what comes from that policy.
I wouldn't do it. Moreover, how hard can it be to type "Ubuntu" and more keywords into the address field of your browser?
Maybe just a .desktop lauching Firefox. And specify a "location aware" web page, so it will link to a local team in native language instead of the english one.
Camparing this idea to IE just isn't rgiht.. noones forcing new users to use the links. But a valid point is that some ppl might not like to be left out..
So how about a ubuntu.com site that randomize 10(?) links each day, anyone can add there link to the list (after someone checks it, no porn links plz :) )
one con with the size of ubuntu is that theres also huge abbount of crap/outdated/spam webpages out there so finding the sweet things isn't that easy, especialy if you don't already know whats out there.
