Description
Please provide a better way to request packages of new programs. At the moment there are 758 requests for packaging open on launchpad and the list is growing. Provide some way to give feedback on which packages are most wanted which the developers could focus on. Perhaps some kinde of voting mechanism similar to brainstorm?

Maybe a wishlist as for OpenSuSe? -> http://en.opensuse.org/Package_Wishlist

No, the list is already there: https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bugs?field.tag=needs-packaging The only problem is that the number of programs that people want to be packaged by far exceeds the number of programs that are actually packaged. What is needed is some way to prioritize which programs get packaged.

Perhaps another idea would be for canonical to hire a developer focussing solely on packaging new programs.
