already possible. See: http://my.funambol.com

With this, any PIM application can use the standard protocol (SyncML) to sync calendar and other PIM data to the server (also open source) and from there any cell phone can sync to the server via wireless data link.

The cost is ~10 cents per sync if you have no data plan, and cheaper if you choose to purchase a data plan.

USB sync, bt, IR, serial cable, etc.. are all proprietary protocols, and will NEVER be used universally across most devices. Multisync tries, but it will never make it because the manufacturers will never cooperate on a standard teather sync. Not to mention, with teather, you aren't syncing to the master source (the server) but instead the desktop (the client) which is a bad way to go anyway.

Yup, it's always cool to send all your personal contact data over the whole net to some random servers in order to finally sync with your phone.

-multisync is old and works buggy on my 64bit System
-Funambol is to big and not the thing I mean. I would like to sync PIM over Bluetooth.

I know that OpenSync is coming, but it is sooo buggy. On 64bit it is impossible to use in a good way... so I'm waiting.
