Ok so ubuntu has the worst themes ever , but i suggest a online system for the creators of ubuntu - they would take themes from www.gnome-look.org compile them into packages (full packages like with meta gtk2 icons ...) and when we look in the theme manager it will show the packages and let u download it.

It works for firefox because you only need to install the theme for your firefox configuration.

For ubuntu themes I think installing them from the browser would be a little too integrated and that's what everybody hated about IE...

Would be very nice if you could just view inside and instant download inside the theme browser etc. If not all then some like top rated 20 themes and instant download and apply.

What about integration with gnome-look.org or a gnome-look.org client that can get the latest updates to your themes (like Firefox updates). A lot of themes are updated on gnome-look and you have to go back to the site, download the updated theme and manually replace the older version. An auto-update feature would make it so easy to keep your themes up to date.

It would be nice if we can map the individual cursor animation to events. Meaning I have this cursor image I want it to be my pointer I have this other hourglass image I want it to be my processing cursor.

There is currently a problem with the cursor themeing too. If you use the conventional way and apply theme in appearance it will only appear in firefox and still show default in others.
I'm using emerald with compiz-fusion. The roundabout was to set the default to the theme too by editing /usr/share/icons/default/index.theme and copying your theme folder into the icons folder but that is 2 different cursor theme in action at one time.

editing ~/.Xdefaults

Xcursor.theme: mytheme
Xcursor.size: 48

like this still applies theme only to firefox and default theme still used in normal desktop. The themeing mechanism definitely some polishing
